Egan Studios

Lora Egan is an active performing percussionist and music educator in Eastern South Dakota, and the director of Egan Studios. Mrs. Egan has brought her percussion education and her drum line experience to many schools in the area and across the nation. Currently, Mrs. Egan is teaching with the Harrisburg Public Schools, and remains an active adjudicator for area solo and ensemble festivals.

Mrs. Egan has performed with groups such as the Sioux Empire Brass Society, Dakota Winds Ensemble, Freeman Schmeckfest pit orchestras, Freeman Academy pit orchestras, the Freeman Area Children's Choir musicals, Lennox Community Band, Sioux Falls Muni Band, South Dakota Honors Choir, Swiss Choral, Prairie Song, along with many other area musical organizations. She also collaborated with the Balleraena Dance Studio in 2006 and 2007 where she was a featured hand drummer for the Balleraena Dance Company.

Before teaching Marching Percussion and Winter Drumline in Harrisburg, Mrs. Egan also taught at the University of Sioux Falls, Marion Public School District, and the Sioux Falls Public School District. In 2003 she opened her private music studio, Egan Studios. Mrs. Egan was also the Percussion Instructor and Assistant Band Director for the Sioux Falls Lutheran Schools and has been a guest clinician or staff member with area marching and concert percussion programs.

Lora Egan attended South Dakota State University, in Brookings, SD and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a minor in Mass Communications with a photography emphasis in December of 1997. During Mrs. Egan’s time at SDSU she studied percussion with James McKinney and was very active in the Pride of the Dakota’s Marching Band and Drum Line, Concert and Symphonic Bands, the SDSU Civic Orchestra, the SDSU Percussion Ensemble and many musicals with the SDSU Theatre Department and Prairie Repertoire Theatre. Mrs. Egan remains active and performs with the SDSU Alumni Pride and Alumni Drumline.

A few of Mrs. Egan's awards and honors include being a member of the Vic Firth Education Team, has been included in the Marquis Who's Who books of American Women, in America, American’s Teachers, and received an “Outstanding Service as an Educator” Award from the Congressional Youth Leadership Council.

Mrs. Egan has been a member of professional associations such as the Percussive Arts Society, International Music Camp Alumni Association. National Association for Music Education (MENC), South Dakota Music Educators Association, Women Band Directors International, and the South Dakota Band Masters Association.

Mrs. Egan enjoys being active in her community and has served on the Board of Directors for SuFuDu, volunteered for many organizations including The Sioux Empire Spectacular (DCI), Jazzfest, The Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Society and was an adjudicator for the Sioux Falls Guitar Center Drum Off.
