Egan Studios

Lora Egan is the adjunct percussion instructor at the University of Sioux Falls, an active percussionist and music educator in the Eastern South Dakota area, and the director of Egan Studios. Mrs. Egan brings percussion instruction and her drum line experience to many schools in the area and across the country including Sioux Falls Public Schools, Harrisburg Public Schools, Klahowya Secondary School in Silverdale, WA, Sioux Falls Lutheran School and Freeman Academy. Mrs. Egan also adjudicates many area solo and ensemble festivals.

Mrs. Egan actively performs with the Sioux Empire Brass Society, Dakota Winds Ensemble, Schmeckfest pit orchestras, Freeman Academy pit orchestras, the Freeman Area Children's Choir musicals, Lennox Community Band, and has performed with the South Dakota Honors Choir, Swiss Choral, Prairie Song, the Sioux Falls Municipal Band and many other area musical organizations. She also collaborated with the Balleraena Dance Studio in 2006 and 2007 where she was a featured hand drummer with the Balleraena Dance Company.

Before coming to the University of Sioux Falls, Mrs. Egan taught in the Marion Public School District and the Sioux Falls Public School District before opening her private music studio in 2003. Mrs. Egan was the Percussion Instructor and Assistant Band Director for the Sioux Falls Lutheran School for 8 years and has worked with several area marching and concert percussion programs, both as a guest clinician or on staff.

Lora Egan attended South Dakota State University in Brookings and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education and a minor in Mass Communications with a photography emphasis in December of 1997. During Mrs. Egan’s time at SDSU she studied percussion with James McKinney and was very active in the Pride of the Dakota’s Marching Band and Drum Line, Concert and Symphonic Bands, the SDSU Civic Orchestra, the SDSU Percussion Ensemble and many musicals with the SDSU Theatre Department and Prairie Repertoire Theatre.

A few of Mrs. Egan's awards and honors include being a member of the Vic Firth Education Team, member of the Who’s Who Books of American Women, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who Among American’s Teachers, and an “Outstanding Service as an Educator Award from the Congressional Youth Leadership Council.”

Mrs. Egan is a member in professional associations such as the Percussive Arts Society and the International Music Camp Alumni Association. She has also been a member in the National Association for Music Education (MENC) and the South Dakota Music Educator’s Association, the Women Band Directors International, the South Dakota Band Masters Association.

Mrs. Egan enjoys being active in her community and is currently serving on the Board of Directors for SuFuDu. She has also volunteered for many organizations including The Sioux Empire Spectacular (DCI), Jazzfest, The Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Society and has been an adjudicator for many area solo and ensemble contests, and even Guitar Center Drum Offs.
